A 3-kilometer canal excavation project has been launched in Eidgaon of Cox’s Bazar. The work on the canal, locally known as “Zia Canal,” began on Saturday in areas under Jalalabad and Pokkhali unions.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Lutfor Rahman Kazal, member of parliament for Cox’s Bazar-3 (Sadar–Ramu–Eidgaon) and fisheries affairs secretary of the central executive committee, as the chief guest.

According to sources concerned, once the excavation is completed, the canal will improve drainage during the monsoon season, reduce waterlogging, and enhance irrigation facilities for agricultural land. It is also expected to create opportunities for increased local fish production.

Local public representatives, government officials, and residents were present at the event. They expressed hope that the project would have a positive impact on the environment and local economic activities, particularly by enhancing sustainable fishing practices and boosting local employment opportunities.

Project officials announced their intention to complete the excavation work within the scheduled timeframe.
