A seminar titled “Ensuring Safe Food and the Role of Society: Consumer Rights Protection Act” was held in Cox’s Bazar to raise public awareness on food safety and consumer rights. Organized by the District Administration and the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority, the event took place on Tuesday morning at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salah Uddin, who presided over the seminar, emphasized the importance of health education and public awareness across all sections of society to ensure the safety of food.

“Some unscrupulous traders have jeopardized food safety, and we’re facing increasing health risks as a result,” he said. “This must be addressed as a social movement,’ he added.

He also called upon students and scouts to promote hygiene, proper handwashing practices, and awareness within their families and communities.

The seminar was moderated by ADC (General) Imran Hossain Sajib and featured speeches from officials from various government offices, press club, NGOs, and traders’ associations.

Attendees included government officials, teachers, students, scouts, members of civil society, and student leaders.

The seminar included presentations on the Safe Food Act, water safety, handwashing practices, and featured awareness videos, leaflets, and interactive sessions.

Later, the DNCRP Cox’s Bazar district office hosted a separate seminar focused on the Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009. Discussions included market monitoring, complaint procedures, and practical guidance for consumers like checking labels before purchasing, collecting purchase receipts, verifying advertising claims, and choosing products with reliable trademarks.

Consumers were encouraged to lodge complaints within 30 days via post, email, or through the DNCRP website: www.dncrp.gov.bd.
