The Shawwal crescent has been sighted in the sky over Cox’s Bazar, confirming that Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated in Bangladesh on Saturday.
At 6:16 pm on Friday, the moon became clearly visible above the Cox’s Bazar beach. Tourists and locals at the beach welcomed the sight with excitement, with many capturing the moment on camera. Some local youth also set off fireworks to celebrate.
Abdul Hannan, assistant meteorologist at the Cox’s Bazar Meteorological Department, said, “The district moon-sighting committee meets on the 29th of each lunar month. The committee met yesterday, and with the moon now sighted, Eid is officially confirmed.”
Journalist Montoṣ Bedaj noted, “We saw the moon at 6:16 pm. Everyone on the beach was filled with joy at that moment.”
At the Central Eidgah ground in Cox’s Bazar, two Eid prayers will be held at 8:00 am and 9:00 am, with over 10,000 worshippers expected to attend. All arrangements for the prayers have already been completed.
Eid prayers will also be held at 8:00 am in several city mosques, including Badr Mokam Jame Mosque, Baharchhara Jame Mosque, Borobazar Jame Mosque, Tekpara Jame Mosque, Tarabonia Chhara Jame Mosque, Baitush Sharaf Jame Mosque, Jhautala Jame Mosque, and Alif Lam Mim Jame Mosque at Laboni Point.
According to the Islamic Foundation, Eid prayers will also take place at all Jame Mosques and Eidgah grounds across all sub-districts of Cox’s Bazar.
