The deep depression over the southeast and southwest Bay of Bengal has further intensified into Cyclone Montha.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has instructed all maritime ports — Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra — to keep hoisting distant cautionary signal No. 2.
According to the BMD’s special weather bulletin No. 9, issued on Tuesday (October 28) morning, at 6 a.m., the cyclone was located about 1,290 km southwest of Chattogram Port, 1,250 km southwest of Cox’s Bazar Port, 1,140 km southwest of Mongla Port, and 1,155 km southwest of Payra Port.
Within a radius of 54 km from the cyclone’s center, the maximum sustained wind speed is around 62 km per hour, which may increase up to 88 km per hour in gusts or squalls. The sea remains very rough near the storm center.
As a result, all four seaports have been advised to maintain signal No. 2.
Meanwhile, all fishing boats and trawlers in the north Bay have been advised to stay close to the coast and not to venture into the deep sea until further notice.
