The South Africa cricket team reached Dhaka today for a two-match Test series against Bangladesh, a series which is the part of the ICC World Test Championship.
This is the first time for South Africa to visit Bangladesh for a Test series since 2015.
Uncertainty hovered over the Proteas visit following the political change in Bangladesh, but after security assurance, the team agreed to come.
The opening Test will be Shakib Al Hasan’s last match in this format and it also marks the beginning of Bangladesh team’s new coach Phil Simmons who arrived by the same flight with South Africa today.
Simmons, a former West Indies all-rounder, was named as Bangladesh coach immediately for the 2025 Champions Trophy after the BCB suspended Chandika Hathurusingha on disciplinary grounds.
Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium will host the first Test, beginning on October 21 while the second Test will start in Chattogram from October 29.
