Large quantities of sweet pumpkins have arrived at Cox’s Bazar’s Boro Bazar, one of the district’s largest kitchen markets, boosting seasonal trade and attracting both wholesale and retail buyers.

Traders said local farmers and wholesalers have been bringing fresh supplies to the market from early morning each day, resulting in brisk trading.

A visit to the market showed rows of sweet pumpkins of various sizes on display at vegetable stalls. Vendors said prices have remained affordable due to ample supply, encouraging customers to purchase the seasonal produce.

According to traders, the volume of pumpkins entering the market has increased steadily since the start of the harvesting season, driving stronger sales and sustained consumer demand.

Vendor Zahir said sweet pumpkins were currently being sold at Tk 30–40 per kilogram in the wholesale market and Tk 40–50 per kilogram at the retail level, depending on size and quality.

“The supply is good currently, which has helped keep prices stable. We are seeing a steady flow of both wholesale and retail customers every day,” he said.

Traders noted that sweet pumpkins remain popular year-round due to their nutritional value and long storage life. They are widely used in household cooking, including curries, mashed dishes, and a variety of traditional recipes.

Market operators expect prices to remain stable over the coming weeks if supplies continue at current levels.
