Popular singer and actor Tahsan Khan, who is also a goodwill ambassador for the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), sampled 10 traditional Rakhine and Burmese dishes during his visit to Cox’s Bazar.
On Thursday evening, he dined at Falong Zee, a well-known restaurant in Cox’s Bazar city specialising in Rakhine and Burmese cuisine.
Earlier in the day, Tahsan visited Rohingya refugee camps in Ukhiya as part of his role as a UNHCR goodwill ambassador. During the visit, he met Rohingya youths and listened to their experiences of prolonged displacement and their hopes for the future.
After touring the camps, he visited Falong Zee to experience the region’s traditional cuisine.
According to Wan Jaw Rakhine, managing director of Falong Zee, Tahsan ordered a 10-course selection featuring some of the restaurant’s signature dishes.
The menu included prawn laksa, squid laksa, tea leaf laksa, balachaung, steamed hilsa, steamed coral grouper, hill chicken, toja, fried chapila fish and prawn masala.
“It was a proud and memorable moment for us to welcome Tahsan Khan to our restaurant,” Wan Jaw Rakhine said.
“His warmth, humility and simplicity impressed everyone here. Through his work in music and television, he has inspired millions of people, and his visit has been equally inspiring for us. We are grateful that he chose Falong Zee during his stay in Cox’s Bazar and look forward to welcoming him again.”
Local tourism stakeholders believe Tahsan’s visit and his appreciation of traditional Rakhine and Burmese cuisine have drawn renewed attention to Cox’s Bazar’s rich and diverse culinary heritage, encouraging more visitors to explore the region beyond its beaches.
