After 10 days of protests, the non-government teachers and employees who participated in Tuesday’s monthly pay order scheme withdrew their protests as the government decided to introduce 15% (minimum Tk 2,000) of their basic salaries as house rent in two phases.
On Tuesday, the Finance Division issued a letter to the education ministry approving 7.5 percent of basic pay as house rent for MPO teachers and employees starting November 1 in the context of the limited government budget.
It read that another 7.5% of basic pay would be introduced from July 1, 2026, to 12:30pm, the education adviser Professor Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar announced the latest decision of the government at a press conference held at the Bangladesh Secretariat on the day.
Before the press conference a representative team of the teachers and employees, led by MPO-bhukto Shikkha Jatiyakaran Pratyashi Jote member secretary Delawar Hossain Azizi, met with the adviser.
Leaders of the organisation also attended the press conference.
The adviser asked the teachers to return to their classrooms.
In reply, Delawar Hossain said they would return to the classrooms the next day.
