The Cox’s Bazar beach, famed as the world’s longest sandy coastline, draws thousands of tourists daily. However, the waste and plastic left behind by visitors tarnish its beauty and pose significant environmental threats.

Amidst this challenge, a group of dedicated individuals works tirelessly to keep the beach clean. One such individual is Suruj Mia, who arrives at the beach every morning with a bag in hand, collecting trash and plastic waste. He has devoted his life to preserving the beach’s pristine beauty alongside a few other workers.

Suruj Mia says, “We don’t ask for much. The earnings from this work are modest, but the satisfaction of keeping the beach clean is priceless. Without our efforts, the environmental damage would be far worse.”

If tourists were more mindful and disposed of their waste in designated areas, the work of people like Suruj Mia would become significantly easier. However, their sacrifice cannot be measured merely in monetary terms. Their dedication demonstrates a profound love for and responsibility toward nature, inspiring us all.

Preserving the environment of a world-class tourist destination like Cox’s Bazar is not just the government’s responsibility—it is a duty for everyone. By honoring the efforts of individuals like Suruj Mia, we must adopt more sustainable and conscious habits to protect this natural treasure.
