Despite the absence of any weekly or government holiday, thousands of tourists have flocked to Cox’s Bazar sea beach, creating an atmosphere similar to a peak holiday season. Popular beach points such as Kolatoli, Sugandha, and Laboni have seen a surge in tourists since Tuesday morning (December 23), creating limited space for movement.
Even Kolatoli, typically less crowded, has experienced a noticeable surge in tourists. Heavy crowds have also been reported at Himchari, Inani, and Patuartek beaches.
Sources said that the rush is driven mainly by school and college students beginning their post-exam vacations, prompting many families to choose this period for travel. In addition, domestic tourists are currently viewing Cox’s Bazar as a safe and secure travel destination.
With the rising number of visitors, tourist police, lifeguards, and beach workers are experiencing a busy time. They have intensified surveillance and precautionary measures at various beach points to ensure public safety.
Assistant Supervisor of beach workers Md Belal Hossain, said, “The safety of every tourist visiting Cox’s Bazar is our top priority. All tourist spots remain under constant monitoring. Providing immediate assistance to anyone in danger is our foremost responsibility. We urge visitors to stay within designated safe zones and follow instructions to enjoy the beach safely.”
Imtiaz Ahmed, Field Team Manager of the ‘Sea Safe Lifeguard’ project, said, “As the number of tourists increases, our activities have been further strengthened. Regular announcements are being made through loudspeakers, and swimmers are being closely monitored to prevent any accidents.”
Chief of Tourist Police, Cox’s Bazar region, Additional DIG Apel Mahmud, said, “Every tourist visiting the beach is our guest. Tourist police are on the highest level of alert to ensure their safety. Patrols and surveillance have been reinforced at all key locations along the beach.”
Many tourists expressed satisfaction with the overall situation. Rashed Mahmud, who arrived from Mirpur in Dhaka, said, “Even without a holiday, we came here with our children after their exams. We are satisfied with the security arrangements. Lifeguards and police personnel are visible everywhere.”
Nazma Akter, a homemaker visiting from Chattogram with her family, said, “There is a lot of crowd, but the environment feels safe. Even with children, there is no fear as security personnel are always keeping watch.”
Stakeholders predict that the number of visitors may rise even more in the days ahead. Authorities have urged visitors to remain cautious and strictly follow safety guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable stay in Cox’s Bazar.
