Alongside the rest of the country, the district health department in Cox’s Bazar has launched a typhoid vaccination campaign under the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI).

Beginning on Sunday, the district’s 2,936 vaccination centers are conducting the campaign, which targets children aged between 9 months and 15 years. Each eligible child will receive one free dose of the typhoid vaccine.

The campaign was inaugurated at the Shah Abdul Jabbar Auditorium of Baitush Sharaf Jabbaria Academy, with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Imran Hossain Sajib attending as the chief guest.

In his speech, the ADC described the typhoid vaccine as both safe and effective, noting that it would play a vital role in preventing the disease and reducing illness and death caused by typhoid fever.

The event was presided over by Civil Surgeon Dr. Mohammadul Haque and attended by Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nilufa Yasmin Chowdhury, Baitush Sharaf Complex Director General M. M. Sirajul Islam, Deputy Director of Family Planning Biplob Barua, Police Inspector Sheikh Gani Mia from the SP’s office, Sadar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Titu Chandra Shil, and Principal of Baitush Jabbaria School and College Syed Karim, among others.

Conducted by Medical Officer Dr. Moyaz Arafat, the inaugural event saw participation from government and non-government officials, healthcare professionals, law enforcement members, scouts, and BNCC volunteers.

The district has set a target to vaccinate 906,554 children, and officials are urging everyone to work together to counter misinformation and ensure the campaign’s success. Following the inauguration, registered students began receiving their vaccine doses.
