Authorities have launched a coordinated waste management drive on Saint Martin’s Island, led by the Department of Environment (DoE) and law enforcement agencies, with support from the Teknaf Upazila Administration.
Authorities carried out a special operation on Wednesday (3 December) to strengthen waste management on the island. Teams from the DoE, Bangladesh Police, and Tourist Police jointly cleaned plastic and other waste from areas near the beach, nearby markets, and several resort zones. Public announcements were also made to raise awareness aboutthe proper dumping of waste at designated locations.
The operation was supervised by the Assistant Commissioner (Land), Teknaf Upazila, and Executive Magistrate Rakib Hasan Chowdhury.
He said, “Everyone must act more responsibly to protect the environment of this vital tourist destination.” He added that similar drives will continue in the coming days.
