Thousands of tourists flocked to Cox’s Bazar beach on Friday as the weekend brought renewed crowds to Bangladesh’s premier seaside destination, with lifeguards intensifying safety measures amid rough sea conditions.
From the morning, the Kolatoli, Sugandha and Laboni points witnessed a steady stream of tourists arriving with family members and friends, bringing back the lively atmosphere that had faded during days of adverse weather.
The beach became even busier in the afternoon as high tide drew more tourists to the shoreline. Tourists were seen strolling along the beach, taking photographs and selfies, while children built sandcastles and played on the sand.
Many relaxed under beach umbrellas and chairs, while others enjoyed horse rides, beach bikes and jet ski rides.
Lifeguards remained on duty at the three main beach points, urging visitors to stay within designated bathing zones and avoid venturing into deep water. Safety announcements were broadcast regularly over loudspeakers, while lifeguards maintained constant surveillance to prevent accidents.
The increased vigilance comes as Local Cautionary Signal No. 3 remains in force for the seaports of Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram, Mongla, and Payra due to unsettled weather over the Bay of Bengal. The sea remains moderately rough despite the improved weather.
“We are requesting tourists to remain within the designated safe bathing areas as Local Cautionary Signal No 3 is still in effect,” said lifeguard Md Yusuf. “Our members are on duty throughout the day, making regular announcements to ensure that no one enters deep water.”
The district administration, lifeguards and other relevant agencies continued coordinated efforts to ensure that visitors could enjoy the beach safely despite the prevailing weather conditions.
