The low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a well-marked low and may further strengthen, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD). As a result, maritime ports have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal No. 3.
In a special weather bulletin issued on Friday (September 26), the Met Office said the system, which had been lying over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining west-central areas near the Odisha-Andhra coast, turned into a well-marked low by 6 a.m. Friday. It is now centered over the northwest Bay and adjoining central Bay.
Due to its influence, a steep pressure gradient has developed over the northern Bay, causing squally winds over the sea, adjacent coastal areas, and maritime ports.
Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra seaports have been instructed to hoist local cautionary signal No. 3.
Meanwhile, fishing boats and trawlers in the northern Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
