The wholesale supply of raw tamarind has increased at Cox’s Bazar Boro Bazar with the onset of the winter season. Arrivals from different parts of the country have boosted market activity, drawing small traders from across the district as well as many homemakers who are purchasing tamarind in bulk to prepare pickles and various dishes at home.
A visit to the market reveals that raw tamarind is currently being sold at wholesale prices ranging from Tk 90 to Tk 105 per kilogram. Although prices vary slightly depending on quality and quantity, rates remain within a tolerable range due to adequate supply. In retail markets, the same tamarind is being sold at around Tk 120 to Tk 130 per kg.
Traders said demand for raw tamarind usually rises during the winter as pickle-making increases during this season. With sufficient supply in the market, they expect prices to remain stable in the coming days.
