Laphet Thoke, Lafasoo, or tea leaf salad, is one of Myanmar’s most popular traditional dishes.
Cox’s Bazar has also gained popularity among the Rakhine community, the Rohingya population, and locals in Ukhiya and Teknaf.
The salad is made with fermented tea leaves mixed with fried lentils, peanuts, chickpeas, crispy garlic, chopped tomatoes, cabbage, chili, lemon juice, and oil.
Although it is widely known as Laphet Thoke, many call it “tea leaf salad.”
In Cox’s Bazar town, a Rakhine woman named Wai Wai recently prepared this salad. Speaking to Cox’s Bazar Life, she said, “Laphet Thoke is very popular among our Rakhine community. It is delicious, and many others also enjoy it with us.”
Tanbirul Miraj Ripon, a journalist working with international media, also tasted the dish.
He said, “This is one of the most popular salads in Myanmar. I often eat it, and it always tastes wonderful.”
