A low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining regions intensified into a well-marked low on Wednesday morning, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
The system was positioned over the same area at 6am.
In its marine forecast issued Wednesday morning, the Met Office said the well-marked low will likely move west-northwesterly. Due to its influence, a steep pressure gradient has developed over the north bay.
As a result, squally weather is likely to affect the north Bay, the coastal regions of Bangladesh, and nearby seaports.
Authorities have advised the ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra to hoist local cautionary signal No. 3.
Fishing boats and trawlers over the north bay have been instructed to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
