The 56th World Standards Day was observed in Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday with the theme “Standards for Building a Sustainable and Prosperous World through Collective Action.”

To mark the occasion, a discussion meeting was held in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, jointly organized by the district administration and the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI). The meeting was presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Imran Hossain Sajib.

In his address, the ADC emphasized that consumers always prefer quality products. While BSTI holds the authority to set and regulate product and service standards, entrepreneurs, manufacturers, and traders also have a responsibility to ensure compliance and awareness regarding quality control.

Among others, Additional Superintendent of Police Nazmus Sakib Khan, Medical Officer of the Civil Surgeon’s Office Dr. Murad Khan, BSTI Assistant Director and Cox’s Bazar Office Head Debashish Talukder, Assistant Director of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection Hasan Al Maruf, District Safe Food Officer Md. Nazmul Islam, BISIC Deputy General Manager Russell Barua, Cox’s Bazar Press Club President Mahbubur Rahman, CAB District General Secretary Md. Jasim Uddin Siddique, Grocery Shop Owners’ Association President Mostak Ahmed, Local Shop Owners’ Forum President Abu Zafar Siddique, and Hotel Official (Retd. Captain) Shawkat Alam Morol spoke on the occasion.

Representatives from various government and private institutions, business and industrial sectors, students, and members of civil society were also present at the event.

Speakers highlighted that maintaining proper quality standards plays a crucial role in sustainable development, economic growth, and environmental protection. They also emphasized the necessity of raising public awareness to ensure adherence to standards.

The meeting further discussed BSTI’s activities and its role in safeguarding the quality of goods and services through coordination with international standardization bodies.
