Young people staged a rally in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday demanding safer public and digital spaces for women and calling for stronger action against violence, discrimination and online harassment targeting women and children.
Embolden Bangladesh organised the Youth Strike with support from ActionAid Bangladesh’s GOLD Initiative. MAGIC Initiative, Youth Co-operative & Civil Society, YASID and Unity Power joined the programme as youth partners.
The participants marched through the city’s Goongachtala area carrying placards with messages promoting gender equality, an end to violence against women and children, prevention of cyberbullying and digital harassment, and the creation of a safe and inclusive society.
Speakers at the event said violence, discrimination and harassment—both online and offline—against women and children were unacceptable. They stressed that building a just and inclusive society requires equal rights, dignity and mutual respect for people of all genders.
They also underscored the need for coordinated efforts among families, educational institutions, communities, and the state, while highlighting the importance of strengthening youth participation and leadership to advance gender equality.
The speakers said ensuring safe public and digital spaces for women is not only a matter of women’s rights but also a prerequisite for building a humane and sustainable society. They called for greater public awareness and collective civic action to combat violence and discrimination.
Embolden Bangladesh said it would continue organising similar awareness programmes to promote gender justice, prevent violence against women and children, and foster a society based on equality, dignity and human rights.
