Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested two young men with 100,000 yaba tablets during a special operation along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border in Teknaf, officials said.
A special patrol team of the Jhimongkhali Border Outpost under Ukhiya Battalion (64 BGB) conducted the operation at Zia Khal in the Jhimongkhali area around 9:10 pm on Saturday, acting on intelligence.
The patrol team spotted two men entering Bangladesh from the Myanmar side carrying two bags. When BGB members challenged them, the men attempted to flee but were chased and arrested.
The detainees were identified as Mohammad Sohel Rana, 21, son of Nur Mohammad, and Mohammad Mamun, 21, son of Abdur Rahim. Both are residents of Jhimongkhali village under Teknaf police station.
BGB members searched the two bags and recovered 10 packets containing 100,000 blue yaba tablets wrapped in khaki-coloured packaging.
During preliminary questioning, the two detainees allegedly told BGB that they had purchased the yaba from the Myanmar border area and were carrying it for sale at higher prices.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Zahirul Islam, commanding officer of Ukhiya Battalion (64 BGB), confirmed the arrests and seizure.
He said intelligence surveillance had been strengthened to identify drug suppliers and smugglers involved in the trafficking.
The two men and the seized yaba were handed over to police for legal action.
