A group of 34 Myanmar nationals, including members of the military and border guard forces who fled the ongoing conflict in Rakhine State and sought refuge in Bangladesh, will be repatriated to their home country on Wednesday via air.
Senior officials from the district administration, police, and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) confirmed the development on Monday, stating that arrangements have been finalized to send the group back to Myanmar. A special flight from Myanmar is scheduled to land at Cox’s Bazar International Airport, where the official handover will occur.
Golam Mortuza Hasan, Manager of Cox’s Bazar Airport, said, “Extensive preparations are underway for the repatriation. A Myanmar aircraft is expected to land on Wednesday to take back the group of nationals.”
This will mark the fourth phase of repatriation. In previous efforts, 752 Myanmar nationals who had crossed the border due to conflict were sent back. Additionally, 214 Bangladeshi nationals who had served prison terms in Myanmar have also been repatriated to Bangladesh.
The latest transfer underscores continued coordination between the two countries amid the deteriorating situation in Myanmar’s western Rakhine region, where clashes between the Myanmar military and ethnic armed groups have intensified.
