Rajakhali Government Primary School from Pekua has clinched the championship title in the girls’ group of the Cox’s Bazar District Primary School Gold Cup Football Tournament 2026.

In a tense final, the team secured victory through a penalty shootout to emerge as the best team in the district.

The final match was held on Friday (May 15) at 3pm at the Cox’s Bazar Bir Shreshtha Ruhul Amin Stadium.

The contest was between Rajakhali Government Primary School of Pekua and Mizjji Para Government Primary School of Moheshkhali. After a goalless draw in regular time, the match was decided through penalties, where Rajakhali Government Primary School defeated Mizjji Para Government Primary School 4–2 to lift the title.

At the end of the match, trophies and prizes were distributed among the winners and runners-up.

Cox’s Bazar deputy commissioner Md Abul Mannan attended the event as chief guest, while additional deputy commissioner (Education and ICT) Tasnim Jahan was present as special guest.

District primary education officer Md Shahin Mia presided over the programme.

In his speech, the deputy commissioner said that sports at the primary level play an important role in the physical and mental development of children.

He added that, alongside academic education, sports help build confidence, leadership qualities, and discipline among students.

He stressed the need to strengthen sporting facilities in educational institutions across the district.

Following the tournament, players from the champion team also received individual awards for outstanding performances.

Sanjiya Sultana Nuri was named top scorer, while Fatema Jannat Tamanna received the awards for best player and best goalkeeper. Atika Sultana Eni was named the best young player.

Muhammad Abbas Uddin Azad served as team manager.

With this victory at the district level, Rajakhali Government Primary School has qualified to participate in the divisional stage of the competition, according to sources.
