In a move to strengthen law enforcement and ensure public safety, 35 police officers in Cox’s Bazar have been outfitted with body-worn cameras. Modern technology will enable the audio and video recording of police activities during duty, promoting greater transparency and accountability.
The cameras were officially handed over to selected personnel from various police units and stations on Wednesday afternoon at the Superintendent of Police’s (SP) office. The distribution was led by Cox’s Bazar S,P Md. Saifulduin Shaheen.
“We want to be a people-centric police force,” said SP Shaheen. “Using body-worn cameras will help build public trust, ensure transparency and accountability, and allow better monitoring of professional conduct. In a tourism-dependent district like Cox’s Bazar, tech-driven policing will significantly improve law and order.”
According to district police sources, the initial distribution covers officers in patrol teams, traffic units, the Detective Branch (DB), and those involved in special operations. Plans are in place to gradually expand the technology across other units.
Md. Jasim Uddin Chowdhury, Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) and police spokesperson, said necessary servers and software systems are being set up to store and analyze the camera footage. Police personnel are also receiving training on the proper use of the cameras.
Officials believe the initiative will not only enhance professionalism but also protect officers from false allegations, ensure transparency in investigations, and strengthen community-police relations.
