The Kutubdia Island hosted its first-ever half-marathon, titled “Infinity Kutubdia Island Half Marathon 2026,” drawing around 400 professional and amateur runners from across the country.

The event began early Friday morning, featuring three categories: a 21.1-kilometre half-marathon, a 10-kilometer race, and a 2-kilometer run for children.

The race started at 6:00 am from the Boroghop open stage, passing through Kaiyarbil and South Dhurung, looping around North Dhurung’s northern bridge before finishing back at the starting point.

The event was jointly organised by Kutubdia Runners Community and Cox’s Bazar Triathlete, with support from the Kutubdia Upazila administration.

Organisers said the theme of this year’s marathon was “Run for the embankment, save Kutubdia,” aimed at raising awareness about the need for a sustainable embankment to protect the island, as well as promoting its natural beauty to tourists at home and abroad.

Participants described the experience of running in a coastal environment surrounded by the sea as unique and enjoyable. They also noted that such initiatives could play a vital role in establishing Kutubdia as a promising tourist destination.

Local authorities expressed hope that similar events in the future would help develop the island into a new hub for sports and tourism.
