An earthquake shook Cox’s Bazar and various parts of Bangladesh in the early hours of the night. Around 1:26 AM, the tremor caused significant jolts that startled many in bed.
Though the tremor was intense, it lasted only a few seconds.
According to Volcano Discovery, the earthquake’s epicenter was in Sagaing, Myanmar, at a depth of 112 kilometers. It registered a magnitude of 5.1 on the Richter scale.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake’s center was 106 kilometers east of Wangjing in the Indian state of Manipur. Myanmar, parts of India, and several regions of Bangladesh felt its impact strongly.
Volcano Discovery also noted that most people in Bangladesh felt a jolt lasting 2 to 3 seconds, followed by a brief pause and another mild tremor of similar duration. The second tremor, however, was less intense than the first.
Despite the widespread shaking, no reports of damage or casualties have been received so far.
