The prices of hilsa fish have soared at the Cox’s Bazar Fish Landing Center, also known as Fisherighat, due to a recent shortage in supply caused by unfavorable weather conditions.

Fish traders said 100 hilsa fish weighing 1 kilogram each are currently being sold for Tk1.5 lakh.

Moreover, 100 hilsa fish weighing 900 grams each are sold for between Tk1,15,000 and Tk1,20,000, while fish weighing 800 grams each are fetching prices ranging from Tk1,00,000 to Tk1,15,000.

Mohammad Salim, a trader at Fisherighat, said that the shortage of fish supply occurred due to bad weather, which prevented fishermen from going to sea.

“With fewer trawlers catching fish, the price has gone up. But we expect prices to come down in a few days as many trawlers are now at sea thanks to normal weather,” he added.
