Thousands of fish lay scattered along the shoreline. Some fishermen haul in nets while others collect fish from the mesh, quickly packing the fresh catch into ice-mixed plastic drums to keep them fresh for longer.

As the fishermen return to the shore with nets brimming with fish, the Inani Beach area of Cox’s Bazar comes alive with the cheerful bustle of people eager to witness the scene. This vibrant display of diverse marine catches is a regular sight here.

The boats that these fishermen use, although unfamiliar to many visitors, are locally referred to as “cococite boats.” Typically, these boats venture only a short distance from the shore, returning quickly with various small marine species.

On this day, several cococite boats went out to sea and returned with nets heavy with fish; each boat reportedly brought in several maunds. Among the catch, Chameli fish made up the majority, with an estimated market value of Tk 40,000 to 50,000 per boat, according to fish trader Syed Hossain.
