A day-long focus group discussion was held in Cox’s Bazar to explore ways to build a skilled workforce for the long-term development of the tourism industry while ensuring sustainable employment opportunities. 

The discussion was organized under the ISEC Project with the support of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and facilitated by the Tourism and Hospitality Industry Skills Council at a local hotel.

Present at the discussion were Mahiuddin Helal, Chairman of the Tourism and Hospitality Industry Skills Council and Director of the Board of Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation; Moazzem Hossain, Deputy Director of the District Youth Development Department; Sirajul Islam, National Programme Manager at ILO; Nabega Dordana, Director of the Tourism and Hospitality Industry Skills Council; Jahangir Alam, National Skills Officer at ILO; and SM Kibria Khan, Chairman of the TOAB Cox’s Bazar-Saint Martin Standing Committee.

The event was presided over by Md. Shahajan Bappi, President of the Tourism and Hospitality ISC Cox’s Bazar Standing Committee. The program was conducted by Idris Ali, member of the same committee, while Asaf Ud Doula (Ashek), Member Secretary, provided overall supervision.

The focus group discussion brought together managers from leading hotels and restaurants in Cox’s Bazar, skills training providers, trainees, and leaders from various tourism-related associations to share insights and recommendations on strengthening the local tourism industry through skill-based training and sustainable employment practices.
