To honour the sacrifices of the July fighters, construction has begun on the ‘July Memorial Monument’ in Cox’s Bazar. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on Monday morning near Hotel Shaibal on Bijoy Smarani Road, with Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury formally inaugurating the project.
Speaking at the event, the advisor said, “The new Bangladesh was built upon the blood of the July fighters. We will remember their contributions not just on specific days, but every day.” He further noted, “No amount of money can compensate for the loss of those who were killed or injured in July. However, the government is ensuring proper medical care for the wounded.”
The Ministry of Public Works has been entrusted with the construction of the July Memorial Monument. “This monument will stand as a symbol, reminding us of the bloodshed that freed Bangladesh from autocracy. It will not only serve as a place for commemorating significant days but will also be a space for families to remember their lost loved ones,” the advisor added.
Also present at the ceremony was Faruq E Azam, Advisor to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief.
Deputy Commissioner Salahuddin stated that the district administration and the Public Works Department are working jointly to construct and maintain the memorial.
The event concluded with prayers for the souls of those martyred in the July movement.
