After taking temporary shelter in Bangladesh, 15 families from the Tanchangya community have voluntarily returned to their homeland in Myanmar. According to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), the families were repatriated through the Ghumdhum border in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban under the supervision of the 34 BGB Battalion.
BGB officials stated that ten families crossed back on Tuesday in the first phase, followed by five more families on Wednesday in the second phase. Over the two days, a total of 71 Tanchangya nationals re-entered Myanmar’s Rakhine State through the ‘Ambagan’ area near border pillar 37.
Lieutenant Colonel S. M. Khairul Alam, commanding officer of the 34 BGB Battalion, said the repatriation was conducted peacefully and with dignity, without the use of any force.
