In observance of World Hepatitis Day, a free screening and low-cost vaccination campaign for Hepatitis B and C was held at Cox’s Bazar Medical College.
The event took place yesterday at the college’s multipurpose auditorium, organized in collaboration with Cox’s Bazar Medical College (COMEC) and led by the Hepatology Department of Chittagong Medical College (CMCH). First-year MBBS students from COMEC actively participated in the initiative.
Professor Dr. A.B.M. Adnan, Head of the Hepatology Department at CMCH, and Dr. Md. Shaheen Abdur Rahman Chowdhury, Assistant Professor and Head of Forensic Medicine at COMEC, spoke at the program.
In their remarks, they emphasized that Hepatitis B and C are two major viruses responsible for liver inflammation. Alarmingly, nearly 90% of those infected remain unaware of their condition, making hepatitis a “silent killer.” They stressed the urgent need to raise public awareness to prevent the spread of these deadly but often undiagnosed diseases.
