The Principal’s Cup Inter-Department Football Tournament began on Sunday at Cox’s Bazar Government College amid a festive atmosphere. Principal Mohammad Amirul Anwar Chowdhury formally inaugurated the event at 12:30 pm on the college playground.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the principal said, “Classes, assignments, and exams throughout the year often create monotony for students. Co-curricular activities, especially sports, broaden the mind, build tolerance, and strengthen coordination among students from different departments and perspectives. Winning or losing is not the priority—participation is what truly matters.”

A total of 16 teams are competing in this year’s tournament, representing the departments of Bangla, English, BA/BSS, History, Islamic History and Culture, BBS/BSc, Accounting, Physics, Political Science, Management, Chemistry, Mathematics, Economics, Botany, Zoology, and the Higher Secondary (HSC) level.

The opening ceremony was presided over by tournament convenor Mohammad Nazim Uddin. Teacher’s Council secretary Mohammad Ullah, departmental heads, teachers, students and players were also present.

Three matches were scheduled for the opening day: Mathematics vs Economics, BA/BSS vs Bangla, and Accounting vs BBS/BSc.

The college field was vibrant with student cheers and enthusiasm. Organisers hope the tournament will continue in a spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie throughout its run.
