For the first time in Bangladesh, National Livestock Week 2025 has begun with vibrant celebrations in Cox’s Bazar. The district administration and the Department of Livestock Services jointly organized a rally, a discussion event, and a livestock exhibition on Wednesday to mark the occasion.
Held under the theme “Local Breeds, Modern Technology: Advancing the Livestock Sector,” the day’s activities began with a colorful rally from the Deputy Commissioner’s office, marching through the city’s main streets. Later, an inaugural discussion took place in the DC’s conference room.
Speaking as the chief guest, Deputy Commissioner Md. A. Mannan said the livestock sector plays a crucial role in the country’s socio-economic development and in ensuring nutritional security for its citizens. He reaffirmed that the district administration would continue supporting women and youth entrepreneurs in adopting modern technologies and promoting safe food production.
Presided over by District Livestock Officer Dr. A.M. Khalequzzaman, the event was also addressed by Additional Deputy Commissioner Imran Hossain Sajib, Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Shamim Kabir, Assistant Director of the Social Services Office, Abdul Awal, along with several livestock farmers.
Speakers highlighted that the week-long observance aims to raise awareness about increasing livestock production, protecting and improving native breeds, disease prevention and health management, and boosting the use of modern information technology in farming.
Government and private sector officials, entrepreneurs, and local farmers attended the gathering.
In the afternoon, an exhibition showcasing cattle and poultry was inaugurated at the district livestock office premises by Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nilufa Yasmin Chowdhury. The exhibition features free vaccination services and a veterinary medical camp throughout the day.
According to organizers, various programs will continue across all upazilas of the district until December 2 as part of National Livestock Week 2025.
