Victory Day programmes have begun in the tourist district of Cox’s Bazar with a 31-gun salute, paying solemn tribute to the heroic martyrs of the Great Liberation War.

On Monday (December 16) at around 6:30 am, Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mannan was the first to place a floral wreath at the Central Shaheed Minar on behalf of the district administration.

Speaking to journalists after paying homage, the deputy commissioner said, “To celebrate Victory Day in a festive spirit, the district administration has taken a series of day-long programmes. Security has been strengthened to ensure that the celebrations remain safe and uninterrupted for the general public as well as visiting tourists.”

Following the district administration, floral tributes were also offered at the Shaheed Minar by Cox’s Bazar District Police, Tourist Police, Press Club, district BNP, and various political, social, and cultural organizations.

As part of the district administration’s Victory Day programmes, the national flag was hoisted and the national anthem performed at Bir Sreshtho Ruhul Amin Stadium. The programmes also included student assemblies, parades, and display performances by educational institutions.

In addition, a reception was organized for valiant freedom fighters at the BIAM Regional Centre. Friendly football and cricket matches were held in the afternoon at Bir Sreshtho Ruhul Amin Stadium, while surfing and jet-ski demonstrations took place at Laboni Point on the beach.

In the evening, a cultural programme was scheduled at Laboni Point, alongside the formal inauguration of a grand three-day Victory Fair. Arrangements were also made to screen Liberation War-based films in open spaces at night, adding to the commemorative spirit of the day.
