Thousands of tourists have flocked to the Cox’s Bazar sea beach ahead of the weekly holidays on Friday and Saturday.
In winter, the beach wears a distinctly calm and serene look, with its vast blue waters captivating visitors.
Red-and-yellow flags are flying along the shoreline, indicating that sea bathing is currently safe.
However, due to the chilly morning weather, fewer people are entering the water early in the day. As soon as the sun comes out, tourists begin to enjoy floating and swimming in the salty sea.
Visitors are mainly bathing at three points—Kolatoli, Laboni, and Sugandha. For safety reasons, the Sea Safe Lifeguard authority has urged beachgoers to strictly follow several guidelines.
According to lifeguards, designated bathing zones have been clearly marked at these three points, where lifeguard services are actively available.
These areas are identified with red-and-yellow flags or, in some cases, red flags. Tourists have been warned that entering the sea outside the marked zones can be dangerous.
Mohammad Osman Gani, supervisor and senior lifeguard of Sea Safe Lifeguard, told Cox’s Bazar Life that the sea is currently tranquil due to the winter season, which is why red-and-yellow flags have been hoisted along the beach.
However, he advised tourists to bathe only within the designated zones at the three points where lifeguard services are ensured to avoid any mishaps.
He also shared tidal information, noting that on Friday (January 9), low tide occurred at 8:00 am, while high tide is expected to begin at 2:03 pm.
Concerned authorities have reiterated that ignoring warning signals or lifeguard instructions while bathing in the sea could lead to serious accidents at any time.
