Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain has called for greater public awareness to keep Cox’s Bazar sea beach clean, stressing that the world’s longest natural sandy beach is a priceless national asset that must be protected.
“Over the past 16 years, Cox’s Bazar was unfortunately labelled as a hub of yaba trafficking. Yet this place is home to the world’s longest sea beach—an invaluable resource for our country,” he said.
“To protect this asset, we must ensure cleanliness and present Cox’s Bazar to the world with a positive image,” he added.
The mayor made the remarks on Saturday morning around 10:00 am while speaking as the chief guest at a cleanliness and awareness campaign held at Laboni Point of Cox’s Bazar beach.
Organised by the development organisation IPSA, the programme aimed to promote environmental responsibility among visitors. During the event, Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain interacted with tourists and urged them to remain mindful of environmental protection and refrain from littering the beach.
He said Cox’s Bazar is not only a national attraction, but also an international tourist destination, and preserving its natural beauty and environment is a collective responsibility. “A clean beach can change the image of Cox’s Bazar and help take the tourism industry to new heights,” he added.
Among others present at the programme were IPSA Director Dr Arifur Rahman, Cox’s Bazar International University Chairman Lion Mujibur Rahman, and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader Dr Mahamudul Haque Jony. Members of the Tourist Police and the Beach Management Committee were also present and extended their support to the initiative.
