The Cox’s Bazar Fish Landing Centre is witnessing a steady rush of marine fish trading every day, with fresh tuna emerging as the biggest attraction.

Caught from the deep sea, the tuna is being transported directly from the landing hub to well-known hotels and restaurants across Cox’s Bazar town, where it has become a popular choice on tourists’ menus.

According to fish trader Rahim, demand for tuna has been steadily rising among both local and foreign tourists due to its rich flavor and high nutritional value. “Tuna is especially popular when served as grilled, fried or steak dishes,” he said.

At present, tuna is being sold at the landing centre at prices ranging from Tk 600 to Tk 900 per kilogram, depending on size and quality. Once served at restaurants, the price increases significantly.

Another fish trader noted that hotels often place advance orders whenever high-quality tuna arrives at the landing centre. “Demand peaks during the tourist season,” he added.

Restaurant owners say the fresh taste and quality of tuna are drawing tourists, helping it secure an important place on Cox’s Bazar’s seafood menu.

Tourism stakeholders believe that if a steady supply and quality standards can be maintained, tuna from Cox’s Bazar has the potential to develop a much larger market in the future.
