Election symbols have been allotted to 18 candidates contesting the 13th national parliamentary election in four constituencies of Cox’s Bazar.

The allocation took place on Wednesday from 10:00 am at the conference room of the office of the deputy commissioner and district returning officer. 

The district returning officer and deputy commissioner, Md. A. Mannan, formally handed over the symbols to the candidates.

In Cox’s Bazar-1 (Chakaria–Pekua), among three candidates, BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed was allotted Dhaner Shish, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Abdullah Al Farukh received Daripalla, while Islami Andolan Bangladesh candidate Md Sarwar Alam Kutubi was allotted Haat Pakha.

In Cox’s Bazar-2 (Moheshkhali–Kutubdia), five candidates were allotted symbols. Jamaat-e-Islami central committee assistant secretary general AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad received Daripalla, BNP candidate Alamgir Muhammad Mahfuz Ullah Farid Dhaner Shish, Islami Andolan candidate Ziaul Haq Haat Pakha, Gono Odhikar Parishad candidate SM Roknuzzaman Khan Truck, and Jatiya Party candidate Md Mahmudul Karim Langal.

In Cox’s Bazar-3 (Sadar–Ramu–Eidgah), among five candidates, BNP candidate Lutfur Rahman Kajol was allotted Dhaner Shish, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Shahidul Alam Bahadur Daripalla, Islami Andolan candidate Amirul Islam Haat Pakha, Labour Party candidate Jagadish Barua Anaras, Amjanata Party candidate Nurul Absar Prajapoti, and independent candidate Md Ilias Miah received Football.

In Cox’s Bazar-4 (Ukhia–Teknaf), among four candidates, BNP candidate Shahjahan Chowdhury received Dhaner Shish, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Nur Ahmad Anwari Daripalla, Islami Andolan candidate Nurul Haq Haat Pakha, and National Democratic Movement (NDM) candidate Saifuddin Khaled Singha.

Meanwhile, regarding the nomination of independent candidate Md Elias Mia from Cox’s Bazar-3, which was rejected during the scrutiny process, the district returning officer said that no directive from the Election Commission concerning the High Court’s decision validating his candidacy had yet reached Cox’s Bazar. He added that appropriate action would be taken once any such order is received.

According to the announced schedule, election campaigning will continue from January 22 until 7:30 am on February 10.

The national parliamentary election and referendum are scheduled for February 12.
