A massive crowd gathered in Pekua on Sunday as BNP standing committee member and Cox’s Bazar-1 constituency candidate Salahuddin Ahmed led a large-scale election campaign rally, drawing people from across the upazila.
From early morning, leaders and activists from Pekua’s seven unions arrived at the rally in buses, trucks, and other vehicles. Many carried placards bearing portraits of Salahuddin Ahmed and images of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman. Some supporters were seen chanting slogans, dancing, and campaigning for votes with the party’s electoral symbol, the sheaf of paddy.
The procession began in the afternoon from Alhaj Kabir Ahmed Chowdhury Bazar in Pekua. It marched along the Banoja Road before concluding at Pekua Sakurpara Station, where a roadside rally was held.
People from various professions and walks of life joined the procession, making the gathering particularly striking. Local residents estimated that around 50,000 people attended the rally.
Organised by the Pekua upazila unit of the BNP, the rally was led by Salahuddin Ahmed himself. Locals with political awareness reported that the turnout exceeded all previous records for political gatherings in Pekua.
Addressing the roadside rally at the end of the procession, Salahuddin Ahmed urged voters to cast their ballots for the sheaf of paddy on February 12.
