Former German star footballer Mesut Ozil and Necmeddin Bilal Erdogan, son of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, arrived in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday to visit Rohingya refugee camps.
A 13-member delegation is accompanying them on a one-day official visit to review the current conditions of Rohingya refugees and ongoing humanitarian assistance activities.
The delegation, led by Necmeddin Bilal Erdoğan, landed at Cox’s Bazar Airport around 10:30am on a private aircraft from Dhaka. They were received at the airport by Cox’s Bazar deputy commissioner A Mannan and superintendent of police ANM Sazedur Rahman.
The office of the refugee relief and repatriation commissioner will host a coordination meeting for the delegation during their visit. They will also inspect Rohingya camps 4, 5, 9, 16, and 17 in Ukhiya, according to sources involved in the visit.
Members of the delegation said that after visiting the camps, the guests would join an iftar programme at the Tika Kitchen Centre at Ghumdhum Yahya Garden.
Also accompanying the delegation are Abdullah Eren, president of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency, Ramis Sen, as well as officials, business representatives, and members of the media from Turkey.
