World Cup-winning German footballer Mesut Ozil and Necmettin Bilal Erdogan, son of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, have visited the Rohingya refugee camps in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar.

The delegation arrived at Cox’s Bazar Airport around 11:00 am on Thursday (19 February). Later in the afternoon, they travelled to the Balukhali Camp No. 9 in Ukhiya.

Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner, Md. Mizanur Rahman said the representatives were scheduled to visit the Turkish field hospital set up in the camp, as well as the Education and Cultural Centre operated by the Turkey-based organization Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA).

They were also set to enjoy a friendly football match organised with the participation of Rohingya youths and distribute prizes among the winners.

After the match, Bilal Erdoğan and Mesut Özil were expected to join Rohingya refugees for iftar. According to sources concerned, the delegation is scheduled to return to Dhaka following the visit.
