Humanitarian organisations and the local administration have stepped forward to support vulnerable communities in Cox’s Bazar during the holy month of Ramadan, distributing food assistance to 12,000 families across the district and in Rohingya camps.
The aid was distributed on Saturday in several areas of Cox’s Bazar Sadar upazila, where needy families received food packages containing around 25 kilograms of essential items, including 14 different food products.
Among the beneficiaries was elderly Nurul Haque, a resident of the fishermen’s community in Kutubdiapara of Cox’s Bazar town. His son, Amirullah, went to sea for fishing and never returned, leaving the family in severe financial hardship.
Expressing relief after receiving the assistance during Ramadan, Nurul Haque said, “My son is gone, and many days we have had to keep our fast without proper food. I pray to Allah for those through whom we received this provision.”
The humanitarian initiative, titled ‘Ramadan Food Items Distribution’, was organised by Multi Serve International (MSI).
Cox’s Bazar deputy commissioner Abdul Mannan said the programme was being carried out with the support of the district administration to ensure that vulnerable people do not go hungry during Ramadan. He expressed hope that such humanitarian initiatives would have a positive impact on society.
Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tanzila Tasnim said at least 1,000 families in the upazila received food packages, which would provide some relief to families struggling to make ends meet.
Mozammel Haque, an official of MSI, said the organisation has been conducting humanitarian activities since its establishment.
With the cooperation of the Cox’s Bazar district administration and the Office of the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner, food assistance was distributed among 12,000 families this year. He added that similar initiatives would continue in the future, with support from international donors and individual donors.
