Lutfur Rahman Kajol, member of parliament for Cox’s Bazar-3 (covering Sadar, Ramu, and Eidgaon), paid an unannounced visit to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital on Sunday (March 8) morning, issuing strict instructions to improve healthcare services and maintain cleanliness. He directed officials to make the hospital more patient-friendly and organised.
The 250-bed hospital was inspected around 10:30 am. Hospital superintendent Dr. Mong Tingno, resident medical officer (RMO) Shantanu Chowdhury, and other on-duty doctors were present during the visit.
MP Kajol emphasised, “The primary duty of the hospital is to ensure patients receive timely care while maintaining discipline. All entrances should not be used simultaneously, as it may cause chaos; everyone should enter through a single gate. Brokers and unnecessary visitors must be stopped. Under no circumstances should patient treatment be disrupted.”
Addressing the superintendent, he added, “I am here to support you in serving patients. Make a list of the hospital’s problems, and I will discuss solutions with the ministry.”
During the inspection, he also spoke with municipal cleanliness staff by phone, instructing them to keep the hospital interior clean 24 hours a day.
Earlier, MP Kajol visited the morgue to inquire about Kahinur Akter, who had died after falling under a lift. Relatives rushed to see him, and he comforted them, saying, “Please be patient. Any negligence in the performance of duty will not be overlooked. Everything will be handled according to the law.”
The RMO noted that the 250-bed hospital sees a large number of patients daily. On Saturday alone, 692 patients received treatment. However, due to a shortage of doctors and outsourced staff, hospital staff struggle to manage the patient load efficiently.
