Farmers in Pechar Dwip, near the Cox’s Bazar Marine Drive, are passing busy days tending newly planted paddy in their fields. Despite the uncertainties of the coastal climate, local farmers are working tirelessly with hopes of a good harvest.

During a visit to the area, farmers were seen carefully clearing weeds and tending young paddy plants on agricultural land in the Jadughar village area of Pechar Dwip. Abdul Rahim, a local farmer, was among those busy maintaining his paddy field to keep the plants healthy and growing.

Rahim said he plants paddy every season with high hopes, but farming in the coastal region always brings a certain level of anxiety because the weather can change suddenly, and natural disasters such as storms or heavy rain may occur.

“When we plant paddy, we always pray to Allah so that no disaster strikes. Since we farm in a coastal area, there is always some fear,” he said. “However, the paddy plants look healthy this season, and I hope the harvest will be good.”

According to local farmers, agricultural activities in coastal areas depend largely on the natural environment. When weather conditions remain favourable, paddy yields are good, but any natural disaster can cause major losses.

Despite these challenges, farmers of Pechar Dwip continue to work hard in their fields, driven by their livelihoods and the hope of a successful harvest in Cox’s Bazar.
