A new mode of coastal exploration is steadily redefining how tourists experience Cox’s Bazar, as the Aquaholic Tourist Caravan continues to gain popularity along the scenic Marine Drive route.

For decades, the appeal of Cox’s Bazar has centred on its vast sandy beach and the roaring waves of the Bay of Bengal. But since its launch in 2019, the open-deck sightseeing caravan has introduced a different dimension to the tourist experience, offering a panoramic journey along the coastline that was once limited to private or high-end travel.

Operating along the 80-kilometre Marine Drive road, the caravan has positioned itself as a comprehensive travel experience rather than a simple transport service. Industry insiders say the initiative has added value to local tourism by combining mobility, leisure, and guided exploration into a single experience.

Abid Ullah Kamal, COO and Co-Founder of Aquaholic Tourist Caravan, said the double-decker vehicle is designed to cater to a range of travelers. The upper deck, which accommodates most passengers, offers unobstructed views of the sea and surrounding hills, allowing tourists to enjoy the coastal landscape in an open-air setting.

Moreover, the lower deck provides a quieter, enclosed environment, particularly suited for families or those seeking a more relaxed journey, he added.

Safety and convenience have been central to the design, said the authority, adding that the caravan includes onboard washroom facilities and basic medical support, while a dedicated kitchen team prepares fresh meals during the trip.

This combination of travel and dining has contributed to its growing appeal among local and domestic tourists, according to them.

The experience typically includes guided narration, with trained guides providing insights into the ecological and cultural significance of different parts of the Marine Drive.

A distinctive feature of the caravan service is its integration with other travel modes. Participants are taken on a jeep ride to coastal destinations such as Sonar Para Beach, allowing them to move beyond the road and directly engage with the shoreline environment.

The service currently operates two main trips daily. Morning journeys focus on exploration, covering a broader stretch of the route with multiple stops at less-visited locations.

Afternoon trips, on the other hand, are designed around the sunset experience, offering travelers the chance to witness the sky’s changing colors over the sea.

Tourism insiders say the initiative has helped streamline travel along Marine Drive, which traditionally relied on informal and often inconsistent transport arrangements. By offering a structured and safe service, the caravan has reduced the need for multiple vehicle changes and fare negotiations.

Tourists have also responded positively, citing the convenience, scenic value, and overall experience. Many have highlighted the combination of open-air travel, onboard amenities, and guided storytelling as key attractions at various social media platforms.

As Cox’s Bazar continues to evolve as a major tourism hub, such initiatives are seen as contributing to a more diversified and organised sector. Analysts say integrated services like the Aquaholic caravan could play an important role in enhancing visitor satisfaction and promoting sustainable tourism practices in the region.
