As intense Baishakh heat grips Cox’s Bazar, a tree-lined stretch of Shaheed Sarani in front of the Press Club has become a refreshing retreat for residents and tourists.
Rows of lush green trees, shaded walkways, and a gentle breeze create a calm, nature-filled atmosphere in the middle of the busy town. The dense canopy on both sides of the road blocks much of the direct sunlight, making it noticeably cooler even during peak daytime heat.
The road sees a steady flow of pedestrians, students, and tourists, especially in the mornings and late afternoons. Some walk along the shaded path, others take photos, while many pause to enjoy the soothing environment.
Mahmud Hasan, a tourist visiting from Dhaka with his family, said, “We came to Cox’s Bazar for the sea, but this green, shaded road in the city is truly impressive. Standing here makes you forget the heat.”
Local resident Asad said he uses the road daily and finds it especially comforting during hot days. “In the afternoon, I often come here for a walk with my family,” he added.
Rickshaw driver Abdul Karim said that traveling on other roads in the heat is difficult, but this route feels comparatively cool, and passengers prefer it.
Observers say that such urban greenery not only enhances a city’s aesthetic appeal but also plays a crucial role in maintaining environmental balance. Locals have called for proper care and preservation of these trees to sustain the area’s beauty.
Overall, even in the scorching heat of Baishakh, the green surroundings of Shaheed Sarani offer a pocket of comfort where nature and urban life blend into a unique and calming experience.
