A group of young tourists from Dhaka’s Government Titumir College has shared their vision for the future of Cox’s Bazar, calling for its development into a modern, world-class tourism destination.
While visiting Sonar Para Sea Beach, the group said that Cox’s Bazar is not only a source of national pride but also a place of global significance, and that the time has come to elevate it to international standards.
One of the group members, Tarek ul Islam Murad, said they travel to different tourist destinations across the country every year, but Cox’s Bazar remains uniquely attractive to them. He highlighted the rare combination of hills and sea, which offers visitors the chance to experience two distinct natural landscapes at once.
He added that although Cox’s Bazar is known as the world’s longest natural sea beach, the tourism sector has yet to fully reach international standards.
Referring to destinations like Thailand, he said such countries have made tourism more accessible and visitor-friendly, and Bangladesh should follow a similar path.
The group stressed that stronger government initiatives are needed to position Cox’s Bazar on the global tourism map. They emphasised the importance of improved infrastructure, enhanced security, and a more tourist-friendly environment, particularly to attract foreign tourists.
They also called for closer monitoring by the tourism authorities to prevent harassment and ensure a smooth experience for tourists.
Sharing their travel experience, the visitors said they explored most of the area’s major attractions and enjoyed the local seafood. They also appreciated the traditional dishes available in local markets, which enhanced their overall experience.
Observers believe such perspectives from young travellers could contribute to shaping a more forward-looking approach to tourism development in Cox’s Bazar.
