A seminar and workshop titled “Objective Journalism, Journalists’ Rights and Professional Ethics” was held in Cox’s Bazar with the participation of journalists from print and electronic media.

The daylong workshop, organized by the Bangladesh Press Council, took place on Thursday morning at the conference room of Hill Down Circuit House.

Chairman of the Bangladesh Press Council, Justice AKM Abdul Hakim, attended the event as the chief guest.

In his speech, Abdul Hakim said he hopes journalists’ legitimate rights will be ensured in the country’s current democratic environment. He also noted that proposals have already been submitted to amend the Press Council Act.

He said that although the Bangladesh Press Council is a strong institution, the chairman alone can’t address all issues. During the workshop, he also discussed journalists’ legal rights and the responsibilities involved in practicing responsible journalism.

The workshop was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner Shahidul Alam. Speakers included Press Council Secretary Abdus Sabur, Additional Superintendent of Police Debdut Majumdar, District Information Officer Abdus Sattar, Mahbubur Rahman, president of the Cox’s Bazar Press Club, and Nurul Islam Helaly, president of the journalists’ union.

Senior journalists and media professionals from different upazilas of the district also attended the workshop.
