Amid the intense heat and dry winds of Boishakh, the season of locally grown mangoes has begun across Cox’s Bazar, bringing relief and seasonal delight to residents.
Ripe and semi-ripe mangoes are now hanging from trees across the district, while streets, markets, and neighbourhoods are filled with vendors selling fresh local varieties. People from all walks of life are buying mangoes—some taking them home, while others enjoy them freshly cut to ease the summer heat.
In Cox’s Bazar Sadar, Ramu, Eidgaon, and Ukhia, local farmers and traders have been seen selling baskets full of mangoes along roadsides and at market stalls.
Demand is particularly high for traditional varieties such as Gopalbhog and Khirsapat, as well as several other local varieties, both small and large. Both raw and ripe mangoes are currently available in the market.
Local traders said the early seasonal yield has ensured sufficient supply in the market. They expect availability to increase further in the coming weeks if weather conditions remain favourable.
Nutrition experts say mangoes are not only delicious but also highly beneficial for health.
Rich in vitamins A and C and packed with antioxidants, mangoes help boost immunity and support overall well-being.
Key benefits include improved vision, increased energy levels, better digestion, healthier skin, relief from dehydration during hot weather, and potential support in reducing the risk of heart disease.
Doctors advise consuming mangoes in moderation to maintain excellent health and ensure proper nutrition during the summer season.
Meanwhile, the seasonal fruit has brought renewed vibrancy to local markets in Cox’s Bazar, with families and tourists alike enjoying the simple pleasure of eating mangoes together.
