A three-day training workshop on multimedia journalism aimed at enhancing the professional skills and digital expertise of journalists working in Cox’s Bazar concluded on Tuesday.

Certificates were distributed among participating journalists at a closing ceremony held at the Arunoday School auditorium in the town on Tuesday afternoon.

Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Md Abdul Mannan attended the event as the chief guest.

Speaking at the programme, he said journalists must become skilled in modern technologies to contribute to building a Smart Bangladesh.

“Multimedia journalism is the demand of the present time. The knowledge gained from this training will help journalists become more confident in delivering objective news,” he said.

He also urged journalists to verify information properly before publishing reports on irregularities and corruption.

“News on irregularities and corruption must certainly be published, but it has to be done after proper verification,” he said.

The closing session was chaired by president of the Cox’s Bazar Journalists’ Union Nurul Islam Helaly.

Among the special guests and discussants were journalists Ekram Chowdhury Tipu, Mahbubur Rahman, Shamsul Haque Sharek and Syed Alam.

Speakers at the event said information can now be delivered more quickly to people through mobile journalism (MoJo) and digital storytelling beyond conventional reporting methods.

They said the initiative taken by the Press Institute Bangladesh would encourage local journalists to pursue international-standard journalism practices.

The workshop, organised by PIB with support from the Cox’s Bazar Journalists’ Union, began on May 10 and was attended by young journalists from different media outlets in the district.

During the three-day sessions, participants received hands-on training on mobile journalism using smartphones for professional reporting, video editing with modern applications, digital storytelling techniques and online safety for personal and professional protection on digital platforms.

At the end of the programme, certificates were formally distributed among the participating journalists by the chief guest, session chair and representatives of PIB.
